I had the delightful pleasure of slipping away for a few hours yesterday to wander through the creative minds of some of the members of Baltimore’s very own Craft Mafia. Shame on me for forgetting my camera, but check out their Holiday Heap Event website to see all the crafty artisans.
There were stuffed hand-made monsters, jewelry from broken antique dishes, hand-spun yarn, silk screened clothing, and much more. Here are some of my favorites:
Red Prairie Press – Red Prairie Press is a one woman (rachel bone) sweatshop, supported in part by a sometimes-bearded man (phil davis) and a cat the size of a small dog (mr. sammy).
Rachel had absolutely beautiful clothing and scarves. I snatched up an adorable long sleeve t-shirt and a fuchsia scarf.
Another favorite was Little Flower Designs.
Little Flower Designs is an independent ceramic studio run by designer & maker Linda Johnson. Linda uniquely blends simple forms with bold surface design to create her
handmade dinnerware and home accessories.
Each of Linda’s pieces were so sweet and seemed to have their own personality. I had trouble choosing just one sweet cup, so I did the only logical thing…I got two.
My tiny blue bird cup has such amazing detail. I placed him out in the sun today so he could commune with other feathery friends. And my darling little flower cup was so cheery this morning holding my orange juice. How could I not start my day right?
Gazing at all the beautiful wares yesterday got my creative juices flowing and I wasn’t sure were they were going to flow to until Owlivia appeared….
Whoooo knew that ribbon, felt, fabric, buttons and thread could produce such a cute vibrant little bird? Well, apparently I did.
Whooo can resist those baby blues?
Doesn’t she just make your heart sing?
Go ahead, have a hoot today and play a little…You just might find yourself having fun.
If you can’t find the time to get out to a local craft show or fair. Support a local crafter at home…you. GO PLAY NOW!!!
